How to apply

Your first steps to funding…

Once you’ve decided which programme is right for you and your organisation your next step is to visit the website relating to the specific programme. There you will find all the information you need to prepare a successful application.

The programme websites give you detailed information about the activities (sometimes referred to as ‘actions’) available within each programme. It’s worth remembering that each activity can have a different application process.

You will apply directly to the National Agency responsible for each programme in the UK. Ecorys manages the Leonardo, Grundtvig and Transversal programmes and the British Council manages Erasmus, Comenius and Youth in Action.

  • Transversal Programme

It’s important to know that the Lifelong Learning Programme is run by the European Commission. Each year they set out the LLP's aims, objectives and rules for applicants in the 'Call for Proposals' documents.

It will help your funding application if you show you have considered these. As these can be quite complicated documents, we've selected the most relevant parts for you. These documents are also  available on the programme websites:

  • Strategic Priorities for the LLP in 2011 - Read the relevant section which relate to the programme you are interested in applying for funding e.g. Leonardo. This will allow you to understand the priority themes for projects and will help you place your ideas in a European context.
  • LLP Guide 2011: Part I 'General Provisions' - Read this if you want to get an overview of the LLP, who does what and administrative and financial rules.
  • LLP Guide 2011: Part II 'Programmes & Actions' - Read the programme section e.g. Leonardo, which details the aims, who can participate and the types of activity funded.
  • LLP Guide 2011: Part IIb - 'Explanations by Action' - Go to the page for the programme funding area (known as 'action') you are interested in, i.e. Preparatory Visits, Partnerships, In-Service Training etc.

Once you’ve decided which programme is right for you and your organisation your next step is to visit the website relating to the specific programme. There you will find all the information you need to prepare a successful application or for a more general overview of the opportunities available read our Quick Guide to Funding.

You can also access the current application form(s) relating to the programme you are applying for at http://ec.europa.eu/education/programmes/llp/guide/index_en.html.

We recommend that you visit the programme websites before accessing these application forms.
